The Sentinel Lady Spartans faced the Bozeman Lady Hawks in the first round of the Class AA State Tournament in Billings Thursday morning and came away with a 55-37 win over the Lady Hawks.
The first quarter played out as most of the games between the teams with Sentinel out scoring Bozeman 14-13 at the end of one. Lexi Deden owned the first frame as she scored four points in the paint and went to the line on an and one her first attempt in the paint. Jordyn Schweyen helped Deden out with the long ball as she went two for two from the three point line.
In the second quarter Alex Carey tried to keep the Lady Hawks in the game with six points in the paint, but it was Jordyn that kept the Hawks at bay leading a defensive charge that held Bozeman to nine points while Lady Spartans racked up 13 points of their won to lead 27-22 at the half time break.
With the lead to start the third quarter Sentinel came out fully charged and Kylie Frohlic went to work for the Lady Spartans scoring six points in the paint to lead Sentinel to 15-11 quarter over the Lady Hawks. Once again Carey tried to urge Bozeman on with four points in the third, and Sophia Robinson added a pair of free throws, but Sentinel kept them at bay.
Coach Deden of Sentinel seeing the win in her sights buckled down on the defensive side of the court and the Lady Spartans out shot Bozeman 13-4 to double up the lead in the fourth and secured the win. Sentinel shot 49% from the field, 40% from long distance, and 72% from the free throw line on the game to get the 18 point win over the Lady Hawks.
Sentinel will move on to play the Capital Lady Bruins Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm in the girls semi-final game.
