Mangun Comes Up Big For Lady Falcons, Rams Blow Past Florence Boys

A major Class B conference battle went down Saturday night at the RAC between Florence and Loyola with the two conference nemesis’s splitting the night as the lady Falcons slipped by the Breakers 64-60, and the Rams came back blowing out the Falcons 77-39 in the second game.

Ladies First…
For the second night in a row the Breakers came out of the gate slow and Florence took advantage, but this time Loyola battled back in the opening quarter to finish the opening period down by one. Breaker leaders Sydney Koppang and Lani Walker would not let Loyola slump as each girl would knock down a pair of jumpers in the opening frame to get the girls going. In the second quarter Florence went to work by feeding the ball in to the post and stretched the lead out to eight points by the half time break.

With a 35-27 lead to start the third quarter Florence kept a steady flow of feeding the ball in to the paint allowing Joey Janetski and Riley Mangun to benefit with Mangun putting up six points. Down by 12 to start the final frame the Breakers began to go to work on the lead and by mid way through the fourth quarter Loyola had made it a one point game. Loyola’s Walker caught fire in the fourth scoring 13 of the Breakers 24 points in the final quarter, but the Lady Falcons were to much for Loyola to out pace and Florence scored the win.

And Then The Boys…

After watching the girls battle down to the final moments of the game the boys took the floor with the Rams set on revenging the Breakers loss, and Falcons looking to make a sweep. The opening minutes of the game was a slug fest with time ticking down to 5:20 left in the first quarter when Charles Burns Knocked down a three pointer to get anyone on the board. Playing unflappable defense in the opening half Loyola held to Florence to single digits in the first to quarters to held the Falcons to 11 first half points.

Leading by 16 points to open the second half of play the Rams put the pedal to floor to score 24 points, eight of which came from Liam Haffey who had quality minutes in the third quarter to lead all players in the period. Having such a big lead in the third,  Rams head coach Eddie Stack slid his starters of the floor and the bench players picked quality time on the floor. With a 21 point lead to start the final frame coach stack started the fourth quarter with his starters on the floor, but soon made a whole sale change to put the bench back in, and the Rams coasted to a big win.
