There were no April Fools Day tricks going on at Lindborg-Cregg Field on Monday afternoon as the Missoula Mavericks American Legion baseball team began tryouts for their AA, A, and B squads.
The 2019 campaign for a state title began Monday with the official team tryouts that have brought in a new group of young talent to build on the already hefty roster. Missoula fields teams at all three levels of Legion baseball in Montana, from the Legion beginner level of Class B, to the top level of Class AA. Each squad regardless of the level of competition is important to the Mavericks organization to have success year after year because the beginner and intermediate levels are important to quality baseball at the top level.
From the 2018 season the Mavericks return an experienced stable of pitchers that look to mow down their opponents one pitch at a time. In addition to an all-star cast on the mound the Mavs will have a dynamic duo behind the plate, and two of the best infields in all of Western Montana. If hitters are able to put the bat on the ball and get it past the infield the Mavericks have a group of players in the out field that are bale to track the ball down no matter it is hit.
Tryouts will be held all week long at Lindborg-Cregg Field from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm with the first week of Legion baseball culminating on Saturday with the annual Mavericks baseball camp.
