The Missoula Mavericks made a trip to Billings Wednesday night to take on the Scarlets in a conference doubleheader and the Scarlets earned their second and third wins if their league schedule.
Game one was a come from behind 5-4 win for Billings as Missoula jumped on the board early, earning two runs in the first frame. Billings bounced back in the bottom of the first with a run to pull within one. The Mavs threw two more runs up on the board in the fourth to stretch their lead to three runs, but the Scarlets went to work in the late innings to earn a pair of runs in the fifth. Then catcher Jerron Wilcox stepped to the plate in the sixth and sent the ball over the fence for a two run homer, giving the Scarlets the lead for the first time in the game, and held on in the top of the seventh to pull out the win.
In the second game the Mavericks would fall to the Scarlets 6-1, with late innings costing Missoula. The Scarlets jumped out to the early lead earning a run in the bottom of the first, and the Mavericks did not earn their only run until the top of the fourth inning when Brendan Buchanan brought James martin home from third off a hit that dropped shallow in the in the outfield. Dane Fraser made it on base in the opening inning with a single, and Tradd Richardson and Beau King each reached off a walk.
The Mavericks will saddle up and make their way to Rapid City for the 2018 Camping Wold Firecracker Tournament June 29th through July 4th.
