The final long road series for the Missoula Mavericks played out today in Alberta with the Mavericks taking the first game in a commanding effort over the Moose Monarchs.
For the Mavs it was one of their ace pitchers who stood on the mound in Brendon Hill and Brendon would be the king of the hill for Missoula holding off the Moose Monarchs in the first three innings. Hill stood on the bump for five innings, in which time Brendon allowed four runs, three earned, walked five batters, and stuck out six Moose Monarchs in the win. To hold off a surging Medicine Hat, Mavericks manager Brent Hathaway switched up and called Thomas Martin in from the bull pen, and the younger Martin allowed one unearned run will allowing two hits in the final two innings of the game.
From the dish it was the Canon, Brendan Buchanan, who led all batters going 3-4 with a pair of runs, and two RBI’s for the Mavs. Missoula would get help from their pitcher on the offensive side of the game as Hill would go 3-5 with a run and an RBI, and Kaden Heidrick kicked down at the plate going 2-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI. As a team the Mavericks would bat .471, and Sam Bucy and Beau King continued their stolen base race with a steal a piece.
The Mavericks will finish out their series Sunday against Medicine Hat.
