Conference rivalries are serious business in Montana prep sports and this weeks prep football preview takes a look at a game between two schools who are family outside the lines, but once the whistle is blown things change as the 6-2 Florence Falcons host the 7-1 Loyola Rams Friday night.
Loyola has become a quarterback factory in recent history, producing solid passers who have the ability to run the ball when needed. In every quarterbacks career at the high school they have a game that makes a statements that defines their legacy and Loyola’s Mitzel is coming off one of those types of games as Ram play caller put the team on his back and ran away from the undefeated Bigfork Vikings last Friday. The Rams have a fast paced offense with unlimited weapons and a stout defense that has proven strong through the past few weeks.
Florence has a had a dominating season with their two losses coming at the hand of two talented teams, the first to Bigfork 44-15 September 7th, and the second coming at the hands of the Eureka Lions 29-27 two weeks ago. The Falcons are led by Colby Kohlman who has been slinging the ball all over the field while Eli Christianson has been running running over opposing defenses. Christianson is the lead man in the backfield that has five solid guys who are averaging over 100 yards per game with less then seven touches per game.
The Skinny
Friday nights game from Florence will come down to the front seven for both sides of the ball as the Rams and Falcons have a run game that can pack a punch. For Florence it is a multi legged game that includes a variety of backs and a quarterback that knows how to put his head down and run. The Rams run game had depended solely on their senior running back Ryan Tirrell with an occasional touch by Jeffery Twite, and after last weeks performance by Mitzel Loyola has an added weapon in the ground game. Locating and containing the ball in the back field by the front seven on the defensive side of the ball will determine who comes away with a win.
