The Missoula Mavericks American Legion Baseball hoped on the bus Saturday and made their way to Great Falls for a doubleheader and came home two games under 500.
Missoula faced the Vauxhall Jets in the opening game of their road trip doubleheader and the Jets bombed the Mavericks with an 11-1 win in five innings. Vauwhall began their day with a win over the Great Falls Chargers and used the momentum of that game against the Mavs. With Brendan Buchanan and Drew Leonard out with injuries Coach Hathaway shifted guys around to get the most out his team. The Mavs persevered through the first four innings, but the Jets broke open the gates and picked up the win off the ten run rule in the bottom of the fifth.
In game two of their doubleheader in Great Falls the Mavericks lined up against the Chargers and Great Falls to try and split the day, but Great Falls came back in the final inning to get a 6-5 walk off win. Missoula picked up runs in the first three innings to run out to an early lead, and Dane Fraser did well to hold the Chargers off to help the Mavs lead 4-2 going in to the fifth. Great Falls went to their bullpen and brought out a fresh pitcher to start the fourth, holding off the Mavericks until the top of the seventh when they added a run to their cause. Great Falls went into the bottom of the seventh down 5-3 and found their bats to earn a walk off win.
The Mavericks will host the Butte Miners on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm
