Saturday night kicked off a pair of back to back doubleheaders between the Billings Scartlets and the Missoula Mavericks, and the two Legion Baseball team split the day.
Maverick ace Dylan Chalmers took the mound in game one and stood tall for the Mavericks, only allowing a single run early, and then finished the stretch stone walling the Scarlets. In all Chalmers allowed one run off one hit and struck out six batters, and did not walk a single slugger in the seven innings he stood on the bump. On the offensive side the Mavs where led by center fielder Beau King who went 2-3 from the dish with a run and RBI, and Maverick first baseman Dane Fraser pitched in from the plate to go 2-3 with an RBI in the Mavericks game one win.
Game two between the Scarlets and the Mavs was a bird of a different feather as the Scarlets where able to mount an onslaught of runs to split the doubleheader with Missoula. Dane Fraser had the call to the mound in the second game, but due to a migraine he wold not be able to play past the first inning and a third before he would gracefully bow out. Once Fraser left the game the Mavericks ran through their stable of pitchers, throwing a total of five pitchers at the Scarlets by the end of the game. In the end Missoula’s pitchers could not keep up with the Scarlets bats and Billings would put a halt to the Mavs eight game win streak in the sixth inning.
The two teams will line up and do it again Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 am of game one of the doubleheader.
