Senators Steal Two From Mavs

With the 2018 Legion Baseball regular season coming to an end the Helena Senators made a road trip to Missoula Thursday night to play the Mavericks and the Senators came away with two important conference wins.

The first game the two teams kept it close to the end with the Senators slipping away with 3-2 win over Missoula. For the Mavericks it was Brendon Hill who took to the mound and Hill threw a tight game only allowing two runs off eight hits, struck out one, and did not walk a single batter in the three and a third innings he stood on the bump.

Missoula earned the first runs of the game in the second inning to take a lead and held on to it until the fourth inning when the Senators tied the game at two, and the game held at two for the next two innings. In the top of the seventh inning Helena broke the tie with a run, and the Mavs attempted to rally back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Senators held on and came away with the win.

Game two saw the Senators breaking out first with a run in the second inning, and repeating with a run in the third to take a two nothing lead over Missoula. The Mavericks had a string of runs coming to them as they would bounce back with a run in the bottom of the third, and then matched it with a run in the fourth.

Helena played with confidence after taking down the Mavs in the first game and in the top of the fifth inning the Senators broke the tie once again, this time with a pair of runs. Helena was not done racking up runs when the seventh inning came around and the Senators capped off the Mavericks with three runs to earn a 7-2 win over Missoula.

The Mavs look to break a three game losing streak with the Lethbridge Elks coming to town Saturday and Sunday for a three game series.
