Sentinel Picks Off Big Sky In Doubleheader

Two of Missoula’s Class AA high schools took to the hardwood Thursday night in a crosstown basketball doubleheader that resulted in Sentinel taking both games as the boys finished with an 82-39 win over the Eagles, and the Lady Spartans came away with a 57-27 victory.

Spartans vs Eagles
The boys would get things started at the Eagles Nest with stakes on the line for the Spartans as they are fighting for the top spot in boys Class AA basketball. Sentinel came out of the gate like they were shot out of cannon going on a 9-0 run in the opening four minutes of the game, finishing the first quarter with a 27-8 lead over the Eagles. Big Sky found the bottom of the net in the second quarter as Camdyn LaRance begin to pick up help from the players around him as LaRance would knock all the shots the Eagles scored in the first quarter.

With a 29 point lead to start the second half Sentinel fended off a Big Sky rally in the third quarter by scoring 21 points in response to the Eagles 12 points. Finishing out the third frame with a lead two points shy of a running clock Sentinel sent in bench players to manage the final quarter of the game. With their second string in the game Sentinel put pressure on Big Sky forcing the Eagles to take low percentage shots limiting Big Sky to six points in the fourth quarter.

Lady Spartans vs Lady Eagles
For the second game of the night the girls from Big Sky looked to clip the Lady Spartans reign over Missoula Class AA basketball with a victory. Things looked like the Lady Eagles would hang with Sentinel in the opening quarter with the score finishing 12-10. Sentinel gained momentum in the second quarter by putting up 16 points while holding Big Sky to four points.

The two teams went to the locker room at the half time break with Sentinel leading by 14 and the coaches made their adjustments to go into the third quarter. As coach Deden has done so well since she began her time at Sentinel, the Lady Spartans started the second half with a fresh game plan off what coach Deden saw in the first half and put the petal down to prevent any type of rally by Big Sky to score the win.
