The number one seeded Sentinel Spartans out of the West took on the number four seeded Senior Broncs from the East Thursday in the night cap game on the first day of the Class AA Tournament and the Broncs shocked the Spartans with a 61-59 win.
The Broncs controlled the first quarter with the hot hand of Braxton Haws who scored 10 points in the opening frame. Sentinel tried to counter with the long ball from Sam Beighle and Gaige Desgazer who went for a combined 2-7 from beyond the arc.
In the second quarter it was a flurry of shots from Senior inside the paint, but the Spartans found their grove and started to connect from the three point line with Beighle, Deshazer, and Braydon Danzinger who scored 15 points from beyond the arc to help Sentinel out score the Broncs 20-12 in the second frame.
Down 34-31 at the break the Broncs came out in the third quarter to out gun Sentinel 16-10, and retook the lead. The Spartans struggled from the field and did not find themselves on the scoreboard in the third until 5:47 left in the quarter when Beighle went to the free throw line.
The game came down to the fourth quarter when both the two teams traded the lead. Beihle put his team on his shoulders and tried to will the Spartans to a win, but Senior’s lead to start the quarter was to much to overcome and the Broncs earned the win from the free throw line to move on to the championship side of the bracket.
The Spartans will face the Helena Bengals in a win or go game Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
