Missoula Prep Sports Network

Sunday Recap 1-13-19

With the second week of prep sports under our belt everybody jumped into action regardless of what sport and we had a great week of high school sports coverage.

Wrestling
One of the most premier wrestling tournaments in the Northwest went down at Sentinel high school Friday and Saturday where teams from four Montana neighboring states collided on the mat. For the Missoula schools Big Sky stood the tallest finishing in sixth place, Sentinel ended the tournament in 14th place, and Hellgate came away with the 31st place spot.

Swimming
Missoula swimmers dove into the pool for the second time in 2019 at the Whitefish Invite with the Missoula Hellgate boys and girls continuing to field a strong group of swimmers. Big Sky and Sentinel tested the waters and came away finishing in a fashion that proved they are a pair of teams that have the ability to keep pace with the best in the state.

Girls Basketball
On the girls basketball court it was an exciting week for all five schools. The Big Sky girls continued to improve working as a team against the Kalispell schools while the Hellgate girls fought hard against top teams in Class AA basketball. On the basketball court for Sentinel who had a single game that was hard fought battle against a Capital team that is surging this season.

In Class B girls basketball the Heart Breakers of Loyola put the hammer down against a tough Anaconda team, and took the Whitehall Lady Trojans down to the wire in a non conference contest to come away with an emotional lose. For the Lady Eagles of Valley Christian they showed that they are coming together as a team with as much heart as a lion.

Boys Basketball
Sentinel hosted the Capital Bruins in a game where the Spartans worked to prove they are onr of the top teams in the Western Class AA conference. Big Sky continues to improve under their first year head coach by buying into his system, and the Hellgate Knights played lights out in three games against elite teams in Montana Class AA basketball.

Loyola had their first battle of the season against a good Anaconda team that always takes the Rams down to the wire regardless of who is on the bench, and then finished the week with a game against a top Class B team in Whitehall that went down to the final seconds. The Valley Christian boys found they can make buckets in the early goings of the game, but are still working on closing out teams.
