The Great Falls Chargers American Legion baseball team made the trip to Missoula Monday to play the Mavericks in the first of three games over a two day span and the Marvericks would get the win off the arm of the young gun Thomas Martin.
Thomas Martin was called up to the AA level from the A squad on Memorial Day and has played in three games since for a total of five and a third innings and had allowed one none earned run off four hits while striking out four batters and walking one. Martin had help from his defense and a special fan on the field in his older brother James Martin at second base. Thomas would stand on the mound for five and a third innings and allow five runs off eight hits, walked a batter, and struck out a batter while he was on the bump.
From the dish the Mavericks where lead by their veteran James Martin who went 1-1 with three runs, an RBI and was walked the first two times he came to the plate. Short stop phenomenon Brendan Buchanan had a good game as well from the plate going 1-3 with a pair of runs and RBI to go with his dazzling play on the defensive side of the ball to keep the Chargers at bay.
The Chargers and the Mavericks will go at it again on Tuesday night when they meet on the diamond for a doubleheader, first pitch for game one from Lindborg-Cregg Field at 5:00 pm.
