Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1952 Harry Heilmann and Paul Waner are elected to Baseball Hall of Fame.

Boxing

  • In 1941 Joe Louis KOs Red Burman in 5 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.

Golf

  • In 2015 17 year old Lydia Ko of New Zealand becomes the youngest golfer in men’s or women’s golf history to be ranked No. 1 in the world.

Hockey

  • In 1920 Quebec Bulldogs center Joe Malone sets NHL record with 7 goals in a 10-6 win against Toronto St. Patricks at the Quebec Arena.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1958 “Jackpot Bowling” premieres on NBC with Leo Durocher as host.

NBA

  • In 1982 in the 32nd NBA All-Star Game, East beats West, 120-118. The MVP is Larry Bird, Boston Celtics, F.

NFL

  • In 1982 in the NFL Pro Bowl, AFC beats NFC, 16-13;. The MVP’s are Co-MVPs: Kellen Winslow, San Diego Chargers, TE; Lee Roy Selmon, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, DE.

Olympics

  • In 1924 at the first Winter Olympics Herma Szabo of Austria wins the ladies figure skating gold medal at the Chamonix Winter Olympics. Figure skating is the only women’s event at the Games.
