Baseball

  • In 1976 Ted Turner purchases Atlanta Braves for reported $12 million.

Boxing

  • In 1681 the first recorded boxing match, Duke of Albemarle’s butler vs his butcher.

College Football

  • In 2014 in the 16th BCS National Championship #1 Florida State beats #2 Auburn, 34-31.

Hockey

  • In 1980 Philadelphia Flyers set NHL record of 35 straight games without a defeat.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1896 the first US women’s 6-day bicycle race starts, Madison Square Garden.

NBA

  • In 1951 Indianapolis Olympians beat Rochester Royals, 75-73 in NBA-record 6 overtimes, the game is also the longest game in NBA history.

NFL

  • In 1980 in the NFC Championship,  Los Angeles Rams beat Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 9-0.
