• In 1980 the Dallas Mavericks open debut NBA season with a 103-92 victory against interstate rival San Antonio Spurs at Reunion Arena.

Football

• In 1925 NY Giants play thier first NFL game, lose to Providence 14-0.

Hockey

• In 1975 Islander’s Bryan Trottier has his first career hat trick.

• In 1960 Radio/TV executive John Fetzer buys a controlling interest of Detroit Tigers.
