Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1997 Sandy Alomar of the Cleveland Indians hits the 700th World Series home run.

Basketball

  • In 1974 the Detroit Pistons beat the Trailblazers in Portland, their next win 6-1-90.

Boxing

  • In 1923 Ban Johnson persuades American League owners to prohibit boxing in their parks.

Football

  • In 1975 Cleveland Browns’ Don Cockroft kicks club record 5 field goals.

Hockey

  • In 1957 Maurice “Rocket” Richard becomes the first NHL player to score 500 goals.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1933 the Berlin Olympic Committee votes to introduce basketball in 1936.
