Baseball

• In 1919 Cuban Dolf Luque becomes first Hispanic player to appear in Baseball World Series. Leque pitches 1 inning of relief in Reds’ 3-0 defeat to Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park

Golf

• In 1885 at the Men’s British Open, Bob Martin wins his second Championship by 1 stroke from fellow Scot Archie Simpson

Miscellaneous

• In 1926 English long distance runner Violet Piercy sets first recognized female marathon record in 3:40:22 on the Polytechnic Marathon course between Windsor and London

NFL

• In 1920 American Pro Football Association (later the NFL) plays 1st full round of games, Dayton Triangles beat Columbus Panhandles, 14-0 in first official game at Triangle Park, Dayton
