Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1882 at the first World Series (game 2), Chicago (NL) beats Cincinnati (AA) 2-0.

Basketball

  • In 1985 Lynette Woodward is chosen as the first woman in Harlem Globetrotters history.

Football

  • In 1916 Georgia Tech, coached by John Heisman, defeats Cumberland, 222-0. It’s the most lopsided score in the history of US college football.

Golf

  • In 2007 at the men’s Senior Players Championship Loren Roberts wins his third of 4 Champions Tour major titles by 6 strokes from Tom Watson.

Hockey

  • In 1979 Frank Mahovlich formally retires from the NHL after a failed comeback attempt with the Detroit Red Wings.
