Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1934 17 year old pitcher Eiji Sawamura gives up just one hit, a Lou Gehrig HR, as US All Stars beat Japan, 1-0.

Basketball

  • In 1990 Sacramento Kings have their last NBA win on the road for over a year.

College Football

  • In 1988 Boston College beats Army 38-24 in the ‘Emerald isle Classic’ at Dublin’s Lansdowne Road Stadium. It’s the first NCAA American Football game to be played in Europe.

Golf

  • In 2018 South African golfer Gary Player receives PGA recognition for his 3 Senior British Open wins (1988, 90, 97) from before event recognized as a major title (2003), takes him to 9 Senior majors.

Hockey

  • In 1942 NHL abolishes regular season OT until WW II is over.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1866 Pierre Lallement patents rotary crank bicycle.

NFL

  • In 1966 Dallas sacks Pittsburgh QBs an NFL record 12 times.
