Baseball

  • In 1940 Walter Johnson, who won 416 games for the Washington Senators, loses Maryland congressional race (R).

Basketball

  • In 1971 the LA Lakers start a 33 game consecutive victory streak.

Boxing

  • In 1994 George Foreman at age 45 KOs Michael Moorer to win boxing Heavyweight championship.

College Football

  • In 1966 Brigham Young QB Virgil Carter sets an NCAA record of 599 yards gained.

Golf

  • In 1927 at the men’s PGA Championship defending champion Walter Hagen beats Joe Turnesa 1-up to win his 4th straight PGA title.

Hockey

  • In 1954 Montreal Canadien center Jean Béliveau scores 3 goals in 44 seconds on future Hall of Fame goaltender Terry Sawchuk in 4-2 win versus the Boston Bruins. It’s the second fastest NHL hat trick.

NFL

  • In 1933 the Chicago Bears 30 game unbeaten streak ends to Patriots in a 10-0.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1957 Mrs Nellie McGrail wins $574,658 on a 2½ cent soccer pool ticket.
