  • In 1970 Cleveland Cavaliers first NBA home victory, beating Buffalo Braves 108-106.

  • In 1961 the 27th Heisman Trophy Award is given to Ernie Davis, Syracuse (HB) (1st African American to win).

  • In 1981 at the men’s Senior PGA Championship Miller Barber wins his first of 5 Champions Tour major titles by 2 strokes from Arnold Palmer .

  • In 1990 the NHL grants conditional membership to Tampa Bay Lightning.
