Baseball

  • In 1931 baseball cuts squad from 25 to 23 players and the National League continues to prohibit uniform numbers.

Basketball

  • In 1987 Larry Bird ends his streak of 59 consecutive free throws.

Boxing

  • In 1913 heavyweights Jack Johnson and Jim Johnson fight to no decision in Paris.

College Football

  • In 1935 the first Heisman Trophy Awarded to Jay Berwanger, Chicago (HB).

Golf

  • In 1926 USGA legalizes steel shaft golf clubs.

Hockey

  • In 1953 the Montreal Canadians (106) and Toronto Maple Leafs (98) get 204 penalty minutes.
