Baseball

  • In 1942 baseball owners agree to permit each club up to 14 night games in 1942.

Boxing

  • In 1980 Larry Holmes TKOs Lorenzo Holmes in six rounds for heavyweight boxing title.

Hockey

  • In 1998 Florida Panther Dino Ciccarelli is the 9th player to score 600 career goals.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1876 Albert Spalding with $800 starts sporting goods co, manufacturing first official baseball, tennis ball, basketball, golf ball, and football.

NBA

  • In 1976 in the 26th NBA All-Star Game East beats West 123-109. The MVP goes to Dave Bing, Washington Bullets, PG.

NFL

  • In 2013 in Super Bowl XLVII Baltimore Ravens beat San Francisco 49ers, 34-31. The MVP goes to Joe Flacco, Baltimore, QB.

Olympics

  • In 1924 Canada beats United States 6-1 to retain the Olympic ice hockey gold medal (won at 1920 Summer Games) at the Chamonix Games. Canadian LW Harry Watson top scores with 46 points.
