Our past has shaped present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history.

Baseball

1876 - First National League baseball game, 3000 fans, Boston Red Stockings beat Philadelphia Athletics 6-5 in Philadelphia; Athletics' Wes Fisler scores league's first run.
1898 - Baltimore Orioles' pitcher James Hughes no-hits Boston Beaneaters 8-0.
1898 - Cincinnati Reds' pitcher Theodore Breitenstein no-hits Pittsburgh Pirates 11-0.
1906 - New rule puts umpire in sole charge of all US Major League Baseball game balls.
1915 - New York Yankees don pinstripes and hat-in-the-ring logo for first time.
1955 - Kansas City Athletic's first game, they beat Detroit Tigers 6-2.
1957 - All National League teams integrate, John Irwin Kennedy is first black on Philadelphia Phillies.
1959 - Chicago White Sox beat Kansas City Athletics 20-6, in one inning Sox score 11 runs on one hit, ten walks, and three errors.
1959 - New York Yankees' player Whitey Ford strikes-out 15, beating Washington Senators 1-0 in 14 innings.
1962 - New York Mets tie a National League record by losing 9 straight to start season.
1962 - Pittsburgh Pirates tie record of ten straight wins to start season.
1966 - Atlanta Braves win their first game, beating New York Mets 8-4.
1970 - New York Mets' Jerry Grote sets record of 20 put-outs by a catcher.
1970 - New York Mets' Tom Seaver consecutively strikes out ten San Diego Padres, for a total of 19.
1970 - Washington Senators beat New York Yankees 2-1 in 18 innings.
1981 - Los Angeles Dodgers' rookie Fernando Valenzuela tosses his third shutout in four starts.
1982 - Atlanta Braves lose after winning first 13 games of season.
1989 - Nolan Ryan strikes out his 5,000th batter (Rickey Henderson).
1991 - Frank Thomas is first Chicago White Sox player to homer at new Comiskey Park.
1993 - Seattle Mariner Chris Basio no-hits Boston Red Sox.
2008 - John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves becomes the 16th Major League Baseball pitcher to record 3000 career strikeouts.

Basketball

1947 - First NBA Championship: Philadelphia Warriors beat Chicago Stags, 4 games to 2.
1954 - NBA adopts the 24-second shot clock and six team-foul rule.

Boxing

1969 - Joe Frazier knocks out Dave Zyglewick in 1:36 for heavyweight boxing title.
1994 - Michael Moorer beats Evander Holyfield in 12 for heavyweight boxing title.
1995 - George Foreman beats Axel Schulz in 12 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.

Golf

1956 - Patty Berg wins LPGA Dallas Golf Open.
1962 - Marilynn Smith wins LPGA Sunshine Golf Open.
1979 - Jane Blalock wins LPGA Florida Lady Citrus Golf Tournament.
1984 - Vicki Fergon wins LPGA S&H Golf Classic.

Hockey

1945 - NHL Stanley Cup: Toronto Maple Leafs beat Detroit Red Wings, 4 games to 3.
1962 - Stanley Cup: Toronto Maple Leafs beat Chicago Blackhawks, 4 games to 2.
1983 - New York Rangers 2-New York Islanders 5-Patrick Division Finals-Islanders win series 4-2.
1988 - New Jersey Devils' Patrik Sundstrom ties NHL playoff record of eight points in a playoff game (hat trick and five assists) in 10-4 rout over the Washington Capitals.
