• In 1862 the first baseball enclosure opens at Union Grounds in Brooklyn New York.

Boxing

• In 1953 heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano knocks out Jersey Joe Walcott in Chicago.

Football

• In 1965 Canadian Football Players Association is formed.

Olympics

• In 1970 the International Olympic Committee votes to expel South Africa.
