Today In Sports History 5/9

Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today. Many believed that the boycott was in response to the U. S.’s boycott of the 1980 Olympics due to the Soviet Unions intervention in Afghanistan in 1979.

Baseball

  • In 1987 the Baltimore Orioles Eddy Murray becomes the first MLB player to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in consecutive games at Cominskey Park.

Golf

  • In 2010 South Africa’s Tim Clark wins The Players Championship of golf with a five under 67 at TPC Sawgrass In Florida, making a 36 hole comeback to walk away with a 1.71 Millions for his win.

Track & Field

  • In 1975 Brian Oldfield of the United States breaks the wold record by hurling a shot put  22.86 meters.
