Baseball

  • In 1938 Babe Ruth is signed as a Dodgers coach for the rest of the season.

Boxing

  • In 1941 Joe Louis KOs Billy Conn in 13 rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

Golf

  • In 1960 Arnold Palmer stages the greatest comeback in tournament history by erasing a 7-stroke final round deficit to win his only US Open title by 2 strokes ahead of Jack Nicklaus for the US Open Men’s Golf.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1936 the first bicycle traffic court in America is established, Racine, Wisconsin.

Soccer

  • In 1995 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, Råsunda Stadium, Stockholm, Sweden; Hege Riise & Marianne Pettersen score within 3 minutes of each other to give Norway a 2-0 win over Germany.
