Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1919 Chicago White Sox pitcher Carl Mays walks off mound blaming teammates for lack of support afield.

Football

  • In 1972 the LA Rams (Irsay) and Baltimore Colts (Rosenbloom) swap owners.

Golf

  • In 1980 at the US Open Women’s, Amy Alcott scores convincing 9 stroke win over runner-up Hollis Stacy.

Miscellaneous

  • In 2001 the International Olympic Committee votes to award Beijing the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Olympics

  • In 1924 Albin Stenroos wins Olympic marathon finishing with  a time of 2:41:22.6.

Soccer

  • In 1930 the first ever football World Cup competition begins in Uruguay.
