Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1921 at Cleveland’s 125th anniversary celebration, at age 54 Cy Young pitches two innings.

Boxing

  • In 1751 the first international world title prize fight with Jack Stack of England beating the challenger M. Petit of France in 29 minutes in England.

Football

  • In 1986 a New York jury rules the NFL violated antitrust laws and awards USFL $1 in damages.

Golf

  • In 1899 Southern California Golf Association forms.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1874 Major Walter Copton Wingfield patents a portable tennis court.

Olympics 

  • In 1948 King George VI opens the 14th modern Olympic Games in London.
