Baseball

  • In 1900 1st night baseball, league game, Zanesville at Grand Rapids.

Boxing

  • In 1983 Rudi Koopmans retains European middleweight title.

Football

  • In 2015 The NFL’s Washington Redskins have their trademark vacated on the grounds it may cause offence to native Americans.

Golf

  • In 1933 at the British Open, Denny Shute beats fellow American Craig Wood by 5 strokes in a 36-hole Saturday playoff to win his only Open title.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1991 Major league umpire Steve Palermo and former NFL defensive lineman Terence Mann are shot trying to help two waitresses from being robbed.

Soccer

  • In 2014 at the FIFA World Cup, Germany defeats Brazil by a record 7-1 in the semi-finals to make it to the final. Miroslav Klose of Germany breaks the World Cup goal scoring record with 16 goals.
