Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1990 Ken Griffey & Ken Griffey Jr become the first father and son to play on the same team (Seattle Mariners), both single in first inning.

Basketball

  • In 1997 the first WNBA Championship is played with the Houston Comets beating the NY Liberty.

Boxing

  • In 1937 Joe Louis beats Tommy Farr in 15 rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

Football

  • In 1939 at the 6th NFL Chicago All-Star Game NY Giants 9, All-Stars 0.

Golf

  • In 1969 the 69th US Golf Amateur Championship is won by Steve Melnyk.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1991 Mike Powell of the US sets a then long jump record at 29′ 4½” (8.95m).

Olympics 

  • In 1972 the American women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team of Shirley Babashoff, Jane Barkman, Jenny Kemp & Sandy Neilson beats East Germany by just 0.36 to win gold at the Munich Olympics, setting a world record time of 3:55.19.
