Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1912 Philadelphia A’s Eddie Collins steals 6 bases in one game

Golf

  • In 1862 at the Men’s British Open, Tom Morris Sr retains his title, beats Willie Park Sr. by 3 strokes

Miscellaneous

  • In 1951 Florence Chadwick becomes first woman to swim the English Channel from England to France. It takes her 16 hours & 19 minutes

NFL

  • In 1983 Pittsburgh running back Franco Harris runs for 118 yards in Steelers 25-21 win at Green Bay to become the only the third player in NFL history to rush for 11,000 yards

Tennis

  • In 1937 at the Women’s US National Championship, Anita Lizana of Chile becomes first Latin American to win a major. Lizana beats Jadwiga Jędrzejowska of Poland 6-4, 6-2
