Baseball

• In 1994 all 28 baseball owners vote to cancel the rest of the 1994 season.

Boxing

• In 1923 Jack Dempsey KOs Luis Firpo in the second round for the heavyweight boxing title.

Football

• In 1930 the Detroit Lions, as the Portsmouth Spartans, play their first NFL game.

Golf

• In 1868 Tom Morris  hits golf’s first recorded hole-in-one.

Hockey

• In 1989 Calgary Flames become  the fir1st NHL team to play in USSR, win 4-2.

Miscellaneous

• In 1982 Trevor Baxter sets skateboard high jump record of 5′ 5.7″.
