Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

• In 1931 the St Louis Cards repeat as National League champions with a 6-3 win over Phillies.

Basketball

• In 1997 ABL MVP Nikki McCray signs with WNBA.

Football

• In 1937 the Redskins NFL franchise play their first game in Washington at Griffith Stadium. they defeat the New York Giants in season opener 13–3.

Golf

• In 1951 at the Women’s US Open Betsy Rawls wins first of her 8 major titles, 5 strokes ahead of runner-up Louise Suggs.

Hockey

• In 2012 the NHL locks out its players after the expiry of the collective bargaining agreement.

Miscellaneous

• In 1967 Anni Pede runs female world record marathon  of 3:07:26.
