Baseball

  • In 1947 Jackie Robinson is named 1947 “Rookie of Year”

Golf

  • In 1931 at the PGA Championship, 20 year old American Tom Creavy beats Denny Shute, 2 & 1 in the final for his lone major title

Miscellaneous

  • In 1879 Thomas Ray becomes youngest to break a world track & field record pole-vaulting 11′ 2½” at age 17 years & 198 days

NFL

  • In 1982 New Orleans Saints 1st road shutout victory beating Chicago Bears 10-0

Tennis

  • In 1948 at the Women’s US National Championship, Margaret Osborne duPont wins first of 3 straight US singles crowns. Dupont beats Louise Brough Clapp 4-6, 6-4, 15-13
