Baseball

  • In 1938 Homer in the Gloamin’ – famous walk-off home run hit by Gabby Hartnett of the Chicago Cubs against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Boxing

  • In 1976 Muhammad Ali beats Ken Norton in 15 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.

Football

  • In 1969 Joe Kapp of the Minnesota Vikings passes for 7 touchdowns versus the Baltimore Colts 52-14.

Hockey

  • In 1942 the New York Americans NHL team folds.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1955 the first World Series color TV broadcast on NBC-TV, Yankees beat Dodgers.
