In a non conference doubleheader Whitehall and Loyola faced off on the hardwood at the RAC in a pair of games that resulted in a split between the two schools where the Lady Trojans took down the Breakers 59-57, and the Rams bounced back with a 44-42 win of their own over the Trojans.
Lady Trojans vs Breakers
From the tip off the Lady Trojans looked to control the game when they ran out on a 6-0 run, finishing the first quarter with 15 points. The Breakers found their grove in the second quarter when they where able to match Whitehall’s 17 points to be down 32-25 at the half time break.
Breakers coach Travis Walker made his adjustments at the half and Loyola began to chip away at the Lady Trojan lead to own for themselves with 2:18 left in the third quarter. With the girls from Whitehall on top by two to start the final frame, the fans from both sides witnessed a dramatic show as the two teams kept it close to the point that the game would be decided in the final seconds.
Trojans vs Rams
With the Lady Trojans taking the first game to put Whitehall up 1-0 on the doubleheader, the Rams set their jaw and prepared to take the Trojans in game two. Whitehall owned the first quarter going up 11-8 on the hot hands of Brendan Wagner who knocked down a pair of shots from beyond the arc, but Loyola composed themselves in the second quarter to match Whitehall’s 12 points to make it a three point game at the break.
In the third quarter the Trojans and the Rams made it rain as the two teams would go for a combined 29 points, with the lead bouncing back and forth multiple time in the quarter. Down by four points at the start of the fourth quarter Loyola went to work on the Trojan lead, sliding Jacob Job into the game who then dropped a three pointer to make it a one point game, with the final stretch of the game coming down to the Rams points in the paint versus the Trojans free throws, with Loyola scoring the win.
