Two of the top three teams in the Class AA Western Conference met on the court Saturday after as the Hellgate Knights played host to the Glacier Wolfpack with the Knights sending the Wolfpack home with their tail between their legs.
It was evident from the opening tip that Hellgate’s Rollie Worster was going to burn Glacier as he earned eight of the Knights 22 points in the paint in the opening quarter, and 18 of their 43 points at the half. In their first meeting of the season on January 25th in Kalispell it was a close finish with Hellgate stealing the win 48-45, this time around it turned out to be a different story as the Knights held a 43-32 lead at the break.
Hellgate came out in the third quarter with their press defense and held Glacier scoreless until 3:30 left in the third when Brec Rademacher sunk a three ball, and Hellgate dominated the quarter out scoring the Wolfpack 21-9. The fourth quarter was not much better for Glacier as the Knights outscored the Wolfpack 26-13 to finish the season sweep on Glacier.
Worster led all scorers with 40 points with Senior Kade Lunday adding 15 points to the Hellgate cause. The Knights bench was the biggest asset as they would contribute 20 points, seven coming from Logan Riddle and Fisher Richardson each. Lunday worked the key and earned himself multiple trips to the free throw line going 7-7 from the charity stripe.
With one week left in the Class AA basketball season the Knights will play the Helena Bengals on the road next Thursday, and cap their season off with a game against the Capital Bruins Saturday the 24th at home.
