Youth Leads Knights Boys Basketball Team

At the start of the 2017-2018 season the Hellgate Knights were led by a tenuous senior and a youthful group of juniors who have molded into a tight group of players.

Team leader Kade Lunday has been a force on the court since he stepped on the hardwood that earned him time at the varsity level his sophomore year. Lunday’s supporting cast includes a hard nosed pair of juniors, and a spunky sophomore. Sophomore Rollie Worster is the point for the Knight’s and ranks number one in the Western Conference in scoring averaging 21 points per game and second in steals averaging two per game.

Junior Dylan Holst picked up regular varsity level play last year as the Knight’s rolled into the postseason, and Holst earned tournament experience against the states elite teams to close out the season. Bridger Deden has been playing at the varsity level since his freshman year at Sentinel and transferred to Hellgate his sophomore year and has been an impact on the the hardwood for the Knights since.

At the beginning of February the Knights are fifth in Class AA boy’s basketball with a 7-3 overall record, and third in the Western Conference with a 3-1 record. Hellgates only conference loss is a 47-40 game versus crosstown Sentinel Spartans on January 12th, their other two losses are to Bozeman December 15th and Genesis Prep January 19th, and all three losses came in front of the Knight’s home crowd.

Hellgate has a tough road a head in conference play with a rematch against the Spartans on February 10th, an away game February 15th against the rising Flathead Braves, and a road game to Glacier on February 17th. The Knight’s will need to peak as they go into the final weeks of the season with a divisional tournament deciding a trip to state.
